Deoghar Dham

Baidyanath Jyotirlinga temple, also known as Baba Baidyanath dham and Baidyanath dham is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, the most sacred abodes of Shiva. It is located in Deoghar in the Santhal Parganas division of the state of Jharkhand, India. It is a temple complex consisting of the main temple of Baba Baidyanath, where the Jyotirlinga is installed, and 21 other temples.According to Hindu beliefs, the demon king Ravana worshipped Shiva at the current site of the temple to get the boons that he later used to wreak havoc in the world. Ravana offered his ten heads one after the another to Shiva as a sacrifice. Pleased with this, Shiva descended to cure Ravana who was injured. As he acted as a doctor, he is referred to as Vaidhya ("doctor"). From this aspect of Shiva, the temple derives its name. .

Bashukinath temple

Baba Basukinath temple is religious place situated in Dumka,Jharkhand ,45 km east from Baidyanath Dham mandir Deoghar. It is said that Basukinath temple is the court of Baba Bhole Nath. In Basukinath Dham, Shiv and parvati temple are just in-front of each other. In the evening when gates of both the temples are opened then the devotees are suggested to move away from in-front of the gates as there is a belief that Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati meet each other at this time. Basukinath is one of the most ancient temples. There are many other small temples of different Gods and Goddesses also in the same compound.

naulakha temple deoghar

Naulakha Mandir/Temple is one of the major attractions of Deoghar located 2 km from the main town. The Architecture of the temple resembles to that of Ramakrishna Math Belur Kolkata. The temple has beautiful idols of Radha and Krishna ranging about 146 ft in height.The Temple has an unusual history to tell. It was constructed by a donation of Rs 9 Lakhs (hence the name of Naulakha) by Queen Charushila of Pathuria Ghat King's family from Kolkata. It is said that the queen left her home, grieved by the untimely deaths of her husband Akshay Ghosh and son Jatindra Ghosh. At Tapovan she met holy Saint Balananda Brahmachari who advised her to construct this temple.

Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapith  Deoghar

Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapith, Deoghar is one of the oldest residential Schools of India established in 1922. It is one of the oldest institute of Ramakrishna Mission, and used to be visited by brother disciples of Swami Vivekananda. It is exclusively for boys and permanently affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education. The institute is run by monks of the Ramakrishna Order. The staff includes teachers from all over India as well as from foreign countries.The school campus contains many attractive buildings. The most beautiful of the Vidyapith campus is the Universal Temple. It depicts the original temple of Belur Math

nandan pahar deoghar

Nandan Pahar is a hill approx 4 Kms from Baidyanath Dham a popular Shiva temple also know as Nandi Temple . There are many other temples dotting Nandan Pahar, most of which have beautiful idols of Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesha and Lord Kartik. As legend goes, once Ravana tried to enter Shivadham forcibly when Nandi (the bull mount of Lord Shiva), who was the doorkeeper, stopped him. Ravana got furious and threw him down at this site and hence, the hill is known by Nandi's name. The hill also offers beautiful panoramas of the town and also stunning sunrise and sunset views. There is also an entertainment park boasting swimming pools, playing fields and boating facilities.


Tapowan located 10 kms approx deoghar is considered to be the site of meditation for many sages. Tapowan is believed to be the 'tap' bhoomi (meditation site) of Sita. The Tapovan hills are located 10 km from Deoghar and boast Tapo Nath Mahadev, a temple of Lord Shiva. Another attraction here is a cracked rock, in whose inner surface one can allegedly see the portrait of Lord Hanuman. This is particularly marvellous as it is almost impossible to insert a paint brush into the crack and draw anything. Below the hill, there is a small kund (water body) and it is believed that Goddess Sita used to bathe in it. Thus, it has been named as Sukta Kund or Sita Kund by local people. .

Satsang Ashram Deoghar

The ashram is a holy place for the followers of Sri Sri Thakur Anukul Chandra. In the south-west of Deoghar there is a big Ashram established by Sri Sri Anukul Chandra which is called Satsang Ashram. It is a universal reforming Ashram and working for the betterment of humanity. It also has a museum and a zoo with a sarva dharma mandir, which is worth seeing.


Shivganga is a Sacred Pond located 200m from the Baba Baidyanath Temple at Deoghar Jharkhand. Devotees take water from Shivaganga to offer to Lord Shiva at the the Baidyanath Temple. There is a huge Idol of Lord Shiva on one end of Shiva Ganga. Historically, the Pond has never dried up. According to Ancient Scriptures, when Ravana was taking the Shivalingam to his country Lanka, he felt the urge for urination. He handed over the lingam to a brahmin and went for urination. After urination, he needed to wash his hands and be purified before holding the lingam. When he did not find any water source nearby, he made a blow with his fist on the earth and water came out and formed a pond. This pond is now known as Shivaganga. Taking a dip in Sivaganga is consideredequivalent to bathing in holy river Ganges. Pilgrims who come to Deoghar, take a dip into the Shivaganga to purify themselves before offering water to the Jyotirlingam.

Tirkut parvat deoghar

Trikut Pahar home of the famous Trikutachal Mahadev Temple . Legend says that many a sage attained salvation on the top of three hills situated here, popularly known as Trikuti.Trikut Hills contain 3 peaks with the highest peak at 2470 ft. around 1500 ft. from the ground, making it an ideal location for trekking. The ropeway takes the tourists to the top of the peak where one can capture an exciting 360° view of Deoghar. Trikut parvat is approx 20 km from Deoghar en route to Basukinath Temple .

tarapith temple

Tarapith is approx 150 kms from Deoghar and 220 kms from Kolkata .One of Shakti Pithas. It is believed that the eyeball of Sati fell down at Tarapith located at Rampurhat in Birbhum district of the Indian state of West Bengal, known for its Tantric temple and its adjoining cremation grounds where Sadhana are performed. The Tantric Hindu temple is dedicated to the goddess Tara. Tarapith derives its name from its association as the most important centre of Tara worship and her cult.According to Hindu belief, an insulted Sati, the wife of Lord Shiva, sacrificed herself at a yagna (fire worship ritual) which was being performed by her father Dakshmaharaj. Angry with this incident Lord Shiva started the Tandava Nritya (Dance of Destruction). In order to prevent destruction of all creation, Lord Vishnu used his Sudershan charka (wheel) to cut the body of Sati into several parts. Sati's body was scattered all over the Indian subcontinent. There are 51 such holy spots where temples have been erected and they are called Pithas or the Shakti Pithas .


Usri falls is one of the top tourist destinations situated approx 90 kms from Deoghar..The mesmerizing and beautiful water fall is made by the river Usri that flows through the hilly terrain of the district. The enchanting water fall in the city is quite popular and has emerged as a famous picnic spot for the residents. The Usri River is a tributary of Barakar River that flows through the region. While passing through the hilly area, the river flows down the steep gorges. While falling down the river splits into three clear stream of water. The water falls from the height of 12 meters creating white foaming water. Surrounded by dense forest that is home to several wild species Usri fall surely adds beauty to the wild landscape of the region. Some of the rocks have been split up into blocks of huge dimension with polished and clean surfaces. After passing through the falls, the profile of the Usri river changes, the lower portion is mostly flat, slightly undulating, which gives way to gorge like form.


Ajgaivinath Temple is the one of the famous Indian Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva situated in Sultanganj. Approx 110 kms from Deoghar .It is believed that the deity of the temple is Swayambhu. e temple is constructed on a rock and has a series of excellent rock sculptures and inscriptions. The sculpture dates back to the Pala period. The splashing waters of the Ganga sanctify the area.
